Damper ban spurred Renault to victory - Bell

Damper ban spurred Renault to victory - Bell

31 October 2006

Renault technical director Bob Bell says the contraversial decision by the FIA to ban mass dampers from the German Grand Prix onwards actually spurred his team on to victory. The Renault car suffered without the dampers but Bell maintains the team was far more determined to win even without the mechanism.

"I think that when the tuned mass dampers were banned, it made everybody much more determined," Bell said. "We wanted to prove that we could win without them. There is really strong morale in the team and we went through some turbulent times, but we didn't give up."

"We accepted the results, and kept on working," he added. "The attitude of our colleagues in Viry was identical. That's one of the things that makes me proud about 2006: in spite of all the difficulties we had, we never lost faith."
