Renault rejects driver swap report

Renault has rejected a report that it considered swapping Fernando Alonso for Kimi Raikkonen half way through last season. The team's rebuttal came after Autosport magazine cited sources 'close to the negotiations' saying that McLaren and Renault came within hours of agreeing the swap just before the German Grand Prix.

The report suggested that the relationship between Fernando Alonso and team boss Flavio Briatore had deteriorated significantly by that point - when the Spaniard looked unasailable in the drivers' race. 

Reuters quoted Renault as saying the rumours are 'nonsensical.'
