Mika Hakkinen completed the first half of his day's testing with the McLaren Formula One team this morning at the Barcelona circuit. It is the first time he has been behind the wheel of a Formula One car since the Japanese Grand Prix in 2001 and the 38-year-old took his time getting used to the McLaren MP4-21.

The two-time world champion started the session doing some quiet installation laps and over the course of the morning the lap times went down considerably. At 2.00 pm the Finn was still the slowest driver on the circuit with a time of 1.19.424 - three seconds slower than Ferrari test-driver Luca Badoer, who was quickest. Hakkinen will continue testing till 5.00 pm.
