McLaren requested Renault to release Alonso

McLaren requested Renault to release Alonso

07 December 2006

The McLaren Formula 1 team has send a request to Renault to release Fernando Alonso earlier from his contract so he can test for the Woking-based team in Spain next week.

McLaren isn't making a secret out of it. They are hoping to get Alonso in their car as quickly as possible. "To be honest, we'd like him in the car as quickly as we can," McLaren's Martin Whitmarsh said. "After this week there's one more test and we'd like Renault to recognise everything that he's done for them and release him to come and test for us next week. We've requested it and if they will say yes, we can do it."

"The earlier we can get Alonso in the car, the better it is. If Flavio agrees then we'll rush around to get Fernando in the car as early as next week."
