Spyker working hard behind the scenes

13 December 2006

While every other Formula 1 team is currently in Jerez de la Frontera, the Spyker F1 team is working hard behind the scenes building their 2007 contender. The Silverstone based team is working on a completely new concept of their F1 car.

Spyker is the only team not active in this year's winter test. The team decided to spend their budget in the factory instead of running their car at Spanish tracks. The reason is obvious; the team will be running a different engine (Ferrari) and thus gearbox, and the team already has plenty of experience with the Bridgestone tyres.

In the factory Spyker engineers are working flat-out to build their 2007 car. According to Spyker F1 team boss Colin Kolles the car will be completely different compared to their 2006 version. "The car we will run next season is a whole new concept. We will have our barge boards for example behind the front wheel instead of next to the front wheel," Kolles told F1Racing.net. Other teams running this kind of bargeboard concept are Ferrari and Renault for example. "Things look good and we hope to have the new car ready by the end of January."

Mike Gascoyne's influence will become clear around the midseason next year. The team is hoping to come up with a new aerodynamic and mechanical package after midseason.
