McLaren's Pedro De la Rosa ended up fastest with a 1:19.109 on the third day of testing at Jerez today. The Spaniard was almost four tenths quicker than second fastest Jarno Trulli in the Toyota. Honda's James Rossiter was then third quickest, setting a 1:19.549.

The only team not testing was Spyker, who is busy getting the revised gearbox and chassis ready to accommodate the new Ferrari engines.

Lewis Hamilton, who beat De la Rosa to the spare 2007 McLaren racing seat alongside Fernando Alonso, was almost half a second slower than the test driver. Meanwhile, Heikki Kovalainen was faster than his Renault team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella for the second day in a row. The Finn, who will be making his debut as a racer next season, was four tenths slower than yesterday with a 1:19.824 as the team continued to acclimatise to its new tyre supplier, Bridgestone.

Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais improved a lot day, going a second quicker and coming within just 0.025 seconds of Toro Rosso regular Scott Speed in the same equipment. The American stopped the session later on in the afternoon when he crashed heavily due to a brake failure. Fortunately, the 23-year-old was unharmed.
