Barcelona track to be altered

Barcelona track to be altered

18 December 2006

Facilities are being revamped at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona, including a change to the circuit where a chicane is to be added. More hospitality boxes, better public access and paddock enlargement are planned on top of the change to the last corner of the circuit.

"The track has been modified between Europcar and New Holland curves for security reasons," a statement said on the track's website.

"The braking point at the Europcar curve must be done before usual because of its alteration. A short straight is following and, after, a double curve is linked to the existing route. Run-off areas will be paved and they will have the more modern elements of protection. With this link road, an important speed reduction is achieved in three critical points: Europcar curve, pit-lane entrance and the main straight entrance."
