Kovalainen doesn't feel any extra pressure

20 December 2006

In 2007 Heikki Kovalainen will make his debut as a Formula 1 race driver at the Australian Grand Prix in March. The young Finn will replace double world champion Fernando Alonso but doesn't feel extra pressure.

"There will be a lot of pressure, but mainly because I want to get the results, not because I am filling someone else's shoes," Kovalainen said in his BBC column. "I don't feel I have any more pressure than I would have had replacing someone who hadn't won two championships," said the Finn, who will write a column for this website throughout 2007. There is always pressure in F1. Even this year when I was testing I always put pressure on myself to do good times and be consistent and to always squeeze everything out of myself and the car. That will be the case next year."

"I am confident that we can repeat the success the team had with Fernando."
