Hamilton will succeed in F1 - Surtees

21 December 2006

Motor racing legend John Surtees says Lewis Hamilton has what it takes to be a winner in his debut F1 season. Surtees believes McLaren's new signing and the reigning GP2 champion will not take nearly as long as Jenson Button to become a winner.

"I think Lewis will surprise a few people," said Surtees who is the only man to have been a champion on two wheels and four. "It's not impossible that he could win a race next year."

"I think Lewis' career will develop quicker than Jenson's has," he added. "He is a very different character and will not be overawed by his suddent appearance as an F1 driver or the money it will bring him, unlike Jenson."
