Monteiro likely to join Toro Rosso

22 December 2006

On Thursday the Spyker F1 team revealed Christijan Albers' new team-mate. Instead of Tiago Monteiro we will see Adrian Sutil partner Albers at Spyker. Monteiro expects to announce his plans very soon, most likely with Scuderia Toro Rosso.

Toro Rosso team boss Gerhard Berger already admitted earlier this month Tiago Monteiro would be a good option for the team. "Tiago has shown in the past two years he is very fast and professional. He is one of the drivers that is on our list," admitted Berger.

Monteiro isn't only a fast and consistent driver, the 30-year-old Portuguese is also backed by a number of well funded sponsors. It makes Monteiro probably the best candidate for Toro Rosso in 2007. Monteiro hopes he can announce his future soon: "I received many questions from fans and the media after Spyker's press release on Thursday. I have to ask everyone to stay patient. I hope to make an announcement on the upcoming season very soon."
