Webber - Mercedes would have had me

Mark Webber says he could have been behind the wheel of a McLaren if Mercedes had any real say in which drivers the team signed. Webber has driven for Minardi, Jaguar, Williams and now Red Bull. He raced in sports cars with Mercedes.

"Racing with Mercedes was fantastic, it made me more professional," Webber told Autosprint. "Why this relationship didn't develop in F1? Simple: Ron Dennis is the boss at McLaren."

"These days Mercedes probably has more say in the management of the F1 programme, but it wasn't this way until recently," he added. "Mercedes had a lot of respect for my work and believed in my potential. "
