Singapore seems to be edging closer to putting on a Formula One Grand Prix. Today newspaper understands that Bernie Ecclestone is talking to two Singaporean groups about putting on a race in the country in 2008 at the earliest. Apparently negotiations will have to move fast though to meet the tight deadline.
The most likely group to pull off the coup is being led by businessman czar who is one of Singapore's wealthiest men.
World-renowned track designer Hermann Tilke, who designed the Sepang, Istanbul and Shanghai circuits, is responsible for the design process of the street circuit. Tilke has had his design approved in principle following a trip to the country last year.
"Yes, we have been talking to various parties about a race in Singapore," confirmed Ecclestone. "But as it is, nothing has been firmed up yet."
