Newey wants to set lower expectations

15 January 2007

Adrian Newey wants to set lower expectations of the new Renault-powered RB3 when it makes its debut this season and many people are talking up its chances of pulling off a couple of upsets in 2007.

"Unfortunately I think expectations do seem to be quite high, which is a bit of a shame," Newey said at the annual Autosport International Show. "I would much rather go in fairly low key and if we do better than expected that is great."

"We're still a young team and that means some of our infrastructure and our resources are not as good as some of the more established ones," he added.

Newey went on to say that the RB3 will be a completely new car and not based at all on the disappointing RB2.

"I think really it's only the brake pedal or something that's a common part," he quipped.
