The new Renault R27 car had a slightly troubled first day on the track today as testing kicked off at Valencia. Giancarlo Fisichella still finished fastest but only managed 32 laps during the day on what was officially a shakedown of the new car and designed to identify and solve any early teething troubles before testing of the new car begins properly.
Fisichella went off the track at one point and later suffered a mechanical problem which limited his running to 32 laps.
Williams test driver Kazuki Nakajima was in action for Williams and finished second after 86 laps. Nick Heidfeld also covered some installation laps in the 2007 BMW car, but was not being officially timed.
Testing at Valencia continues tomorrow when Super Aguri will join the action.
