Viso close to Toro Rosso deal

Viso close to Toro Rosso deal

18 January 2007

Ernesto Viso is currently busy trying to win himself a job at the Scuderia Toro Rosso team. The 21-year-old GP2 driver hopes he can join the Italian team as the team's official test driver in 2007.

Viso, from Venezuela, has had a meeting with Toro Rosso team boss Gerhard Berger in Monaco. Viso is already very close to a deal with the team and according to his management all that needs to be done to close the deal is to get confirmation of their personal sponsor PDVSA (Oilcompany Petróleos de Venezuela).

"The meeting was very positive," said Viso. "We discussed the various options that are available during the upcoming season. We didn't just talk about the third driver position during Friday's free practice sessions but also about participating in a few races as the team's race driver."

"The conditions for our contract are pretty much done. At the moment we are waiting for the approval of (Viso's personal sponsor) PDVSA. This would be a great moment for Venezuela to return in Formula 1. Toro Rosso's team launch will be in Bahrain on the 6th of February."

During the Brazilian Grand Prix Viso made his Grand Prix debut at Spyker F1 as the team's third driver.
