Davidson never lost hope

Davidson never lost hope

19 January 2007

Anthony Davidson will make his official debut as a Formula 1 team's full race driver during the Melbourne Grand Prix this March. Davidson started a Formula 1 race already three times as someone's replacement but was never able to finish the race.

Now the Briton finally gets the confidence of a Formula One team to race for them all season. At Super Aguri he will join Takuma Sato at every Grand Prix in 2007. Davidson admits to Crash.net he never lost hope to join F1 as a race driver one day. "I never really started to lose hope," he said, "but I was disappointed in teams not being able to see the potential there. It was more frustration than anything I suppose, but you never really lose hope of actually landing a race drive one day, and I knew I was young enough to still get the opportunity.

"The real frustration was driving on the Friday, doing a good job, knowing you could have done a good job throughout the race weekend and yet you are not even given one chance during the year. That's what's hard to take."

"I do know all the circuits now. It was really important for me to go to Turkey last year. It was the final circuit left on the calendar I hadn't driven, and knowing the track before you get there is always a benefit. It was a vital thing for me to stay in the Honda family too. I know what we can do together in the future."
