F1 to host showcase in Abu Dhabi

22 January 2007

Formula 1 will travel to Abu Dhabi on the third of February to host an F1 street demonstration. A specially designed street circuit that stretches along Abu Dhabi's city waterfront will be the venue for the F1 showcase.

The circuit will run from the Emirates Palace, along Abu Dhabi's Corniche through to the Marina Mall. The Festival will also include a 'Tribute to the Champions' gala ball at the Emirates Palace Hotel, on the night of February 3. It will salute the reigning Formula One champions, Fernando Alonso (Champion Driver) and Renault (Champion Constructor).

Commenting on the announcement, Sheikh Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nayhan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, said: "We are delighted to bring yet another special, and indeed unique, event to Abu Dhabi. The ADTA is proud to host what will be the largest gathering of F1 cars and drivers ever assembled outside of a Grand Prix event. We would like as many people as possible to enjoy the event and so it will be free and open to the public."

The four kilometre temporary street circuit has been designed to give as many spectators as possible access to the thrills of Formula One. It is expected that the star-studded event will see representation from many, if not all, of the Grand Prix teams.

Among leading Formula One figures whose attendance is confirmed is the CEO of Formula 1 Management, Bernie Ecclestone. Ecclestone commented: "We are delighted to be bringing the excitement of Formula One to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The event will showcase some of the sport's greatest current drivers, as well as the cars and teams that will contest the 2007 Championship. I hope the whole community gets behind and enjoys this unique festival."

This event is open to everyone, and additional details including the most advantageous viewing areas, road closures, and parking facilities will be announced shortl
