Vettel: Comparison with Schumi is nonsense

23 January 2007

BMW Sauber F1 test driver Sebastian Vettel believes it is complete nonsense to compare him with seven times Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher. In Germany they hope for a strong replacement but Vettel said he doesn't feel any added pressure.

"I think the press is in the position of saying 'Okay, Vettel, now you have to replace Michael' but in my opinion that is completely ridiculous," said the 19-year-old. "What Michael has done for the sport is just amazing. In Germany, Michael Schumacher stands for F1. So, to compare anybody with him is nonsense. As far as I'm concerned, I don't feel pressure to fulfil anyone's hopes. I'll just concentrate on my stuff and enjoy it."

Sebastian Vettel will be testing for BMW Sauber F1 this season, but also compete in the World Series Formula Renault 3.5.
