McLaren will bounce back - Newey

28 January 2007

Former McLaren technical director Adrian Newey expects the team he left to bounce back into good form and be one of the teams to beat in 2007. Newey, now with Red Bull says that Alonso will give McLaren a boost.

"McLaren is a tough team," Newey said. "With Alonso they've got probably the most proven driver in the field, especially given Michael Schumacher's retirement."

"Some of the things that hindered them last year - the tyre development direction and possibly even the engine rules, have now fallen into their hands," he added. "So I'd imagine they will be very competitive this year."
