Robert Doornbos is happy to remain test and reserve driver for Red Bull in 2007, though he can confirm that he will be joining a Champ Car team in the very near future so that he can get the extra racing experience.
"I tried to race at Toro Rosso but there were some uncertainties there, so I decided to go for certain for the third driver role. And I am going to race in the States for sure," the Dutchman told autosport.com.
"I am happy not to have lost the link. Red Bull said straightaway after the last race, we would like to keep you onboard, but for 2007 we can only offer you this. On the other side it is lucky that the guys only have one-year contracts, so if I do well and have a good year there is the possibility to get a fair chance for a seat."
Doornbos feels he can easily manage both his testing duties for Red Bull Racing and his imminent racing commitment in the States.
"I am looking forward to combining it, I don't think it will be difficult driving both cars. I tested with Forsythe, which went really well, but with a team-mate like Tracy you have to watch out that it doesn't become a wrestling match! Although he has experience and the team are proven winners. Let's wait and see," he added.
