Alonso fastest on opening day
30 January 2007 / Results / PhotosMcLaren driver Fernando Alonso was the fastest man on the first day of testing at Valencia this week. He was well ahead of the rest. Nelson Piquet was the second fastest driver with his R27. Kimi Raikkonen completed his first day in the F2007 and set the fifth fastest time on the clocks.

Tuesday was the first out of a three-day test in Valencia at the Ricardo Tormo circuit. The day began with a damp track. Many drivers spun off the track in the morning, among them Red Bull driver Mark Webber who covered his laps today wearing a white helmet. Honda F1 testdriver James Rossiter also stepped off the track today - the damage was little though.

It was easy to tell today that many teams are still working hard in developing their cars for the upcoming season. There were many red flags caused by cars that stopped on track with most often electrical problems. WilliamsF1 driver Nakajima stopped his car three times. McLaren driver Alonso, Ferrari test driver Badoer and Toyota test driver Frank Montagny also had their problems. BMW-Sauber F1 driver Sebastian Vettel blew up a BMW engine.
Super Aguri brought Takuma Sato and Giedo van der Garde. Sato completed only 27 laps today, while Super Aguri test driver Giedo van der Garde sat at the pitwall for most of the day. The Dutchman was scheduled to make his F1 debut today but due to the bad weather he had to wait. He will most likely make his F1 debut on Wednesday.
