Alonso happy with car's reliability

01 February 2007

McLaren driver Fernando Alonso has been the fastest driver in Valencia so far. The Spaniard steered McLaren's new car, the MP4-22, without many problems around at the Ricardo Tormo track. Alonso though believes his fast lap times aren't that important, he is mainly happy to see the reliability of the new car.

"It's going really well at the moment," Alonso told reporters in Valencia. "But this is just the preseason. The situation can change at any time when another team is finding something to make their car faster. Fortunately we don't have a lot of mechanical problems. The problems we had we caused ourselves to see how the car would react to them. It's a great sign that we have so little problems and that's why I'm so happy with our reliability."

"After the first race we will know where we stand in terms of our pace, but its still to early to predict where a team such as Ferrari is standing compared to McLaren."
