Alonso: Still work to be done

09 February 2007

Fernando Alonso remains cautious over McLaren's progress despite the Woking-based team topping the time sheets at almost every test.

"It's hard to say. The times are good and others are following us closely but the car is not prepared yet for Australia and there's not much time left," the double world champion told Spanish network Telecinco during the test at Jerez.

"I hope that in Barcelona and Bahrain we can get it running well in two weeks," said Alonso.

The Spaniard is still wary of the threats from Ferrari and Renault, who have impressed him in testing.

"Ferrari seems very good and Renault will come out strong at the start of the season, but they will struggle to maintain that pace as usual," he added.
