It took a while, but on Tuesday Liuzzi was finally confirmed as Toro Rosso's Formula 1 race driver. The Italian driver scored the only point so far for the Italian Toro Rosso squad in 2006 and thus Gerhard Berger showed his confidence and renewed his contract.

Liuzzi was always confident he would race in 2007, never fearing he would be axed. Now it's time to continue the job he started last year. "I think we had a great season in 2006," Liuzzi told GPUpdate.net. "Sure, there were some problems and mistakes, but the reason was obvious. We didn't develop the car a lot, so that was very difficult. But I'm in the race seat for another year, so the team must be happy with what I've done."
"I'm really excited, it's a new challenge for me and for the team," Liuzzi said looking ahead to the 2007 F1 season. "They invested a lot of money in this project, I developed myself during the last season and now I believe we are both ready to fight our way to the top. Next year, I want to be in the top ten all the time. We expect even more, but first we'll have to make some miles."
"We are optimistic about the new car. It was an expensive and tough project and it took a long time as you can see. But I think it was the right decision to work on the new car and miss a few tests. We are pretty confident the car will be much quicker compared to last year. It will take time, but it will be a big step forward. Maybe we will struggle a bit in the beginning of the season, but we will find a way to bring the car on top."
