Giancarlo Fisichella expects Renault to consider making either him or Heikki Kovalainen its lead driver if one of them open out an advantage early in the 2007 season. Fisichella's comments come after he had to play second fiddle to Alonso for two seasons - although this was more a result of Alonso being clearly quicker than any strict number one or two.
"The important thing is to have a good start to the season and always be in the points," Fisichella told the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper. "Then we'll see if Renault decides to focus on one driver for the championship."
"That's how it has been the last two seasons and it worked," Fisichella added. "However, for an infinite number of reasons I wasn't the chosen one. After three or four races if Heikki or I are in a significantly better position than the other, Renault will make the decision."
