Verstappen says 'no' to Champcar

21 February 2007

Former Formula 1 driver Jos Verstappen has announced that he will not join the Champ Car World Series this season. The former Minardi driver was close to a deal to become a driver in the Champ Car series, but he has decided not to participate in the racing series from the US.

At his official website the Dutchman said about the situation: "We've been trying to work on a deal for three months and I'm sick and tired of waiting now. It's always the same political game we're playing and it's all about money. They know my demands, they know the quality driver I am but they just won't make a decision. I'm tired of waiting."

"It's unfortunate for everyone," said Verstappen. "If I would have raced in Champ Cars the Dutch Grand Prix would be sold out in 'no time'. But unfortunately it's pretty difficult for a driver to get yourself a deal when you want to get paid for the job you're doing."
