Williams driver Nico Rosberg is confident that the FW29 is a definite step in the right direction after a disappointing 2006 season for the Grove-based team. The German had a mixed maiden season last year, winning praise for his own performance but also being part of a team that suffered its worst championship result in almost 30 years. However, the 2005 GP2 champion thinks that 2007 could be a turnaround year.
"A definite improvement - a few places back towards the front," Rosberg said of the FW29 in an interview with Formula One's official website.
"I think from the start we will have a reliable car that has the pace to finish in the points. It's a good step forward. A lot more grip and much better reliability. It is a lot of fun to drive," he said.
Williams finished a lowly eighth in the championship last season, which is highly disappointing for a team with nine constructors' titles to its name. When asked if the promising FW29 could mark a return to the glory days for the team, Rosberg remained cautious.
"Well I hope so, but that is too optimistic," he said.
"The good old days are damn good old days and in F1 you cannot normally just jump back to the front from one year to the next."
