Cape Town plans take step forward

01 March 2007

Plans to host a Formula One Grand Prix in Cape Town apparently took a step forward today when a company called South African Grand Prix Corporation announced a project had the backing of the government - but warned some land issues could cause problems.

The circuit would be built near Cape Town's international airport and cost $140million. The current stumbling block is around whether enough land will be made available to develop the complex needed to sustain the race track.

Cape Town meanwhile is busy preparing to host the 2010 football World Cup.
