Alonso expects competitive season

In less than two weeks the Formula 1 season will get underway. In Melbourne Fernando Alonso will make his race debut with his new team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes. Alonso has had a busy winter and expect the season to be very competitive.

Looking back at his preparations this winter Alonso told McLaren's official website: "It has been a really motivating this winter for me. I felt a little nervous at first, but that is just human nature, I didn't know the car, I didn't know the team. Now I am very comfortable with the MP4-22 and over the winter I have made it my business to get to know every single member of the team. You never know what might happen in Formula 1, there are new rules, new cars, new tyres this year with the Bridgestone Potenzas. Until we start racing, who can tell?"

Most of the drivers at the top teams expect a fight for the championship between around four or maybe even five Formula 1 teams. Alonso agrees with his competitors that it will be one hell of a season that Formula One fans can expect. "There are a number of teams who have been really strong at the tests, including Ferrari, Renault, BMW, it is going to be a really competitive year," said the Spaniard.
