Giancarlo Fisichella believes his team RenaultF1, who won the constructors' championship for the past two years, still has the potential to win races in the upcoming season.

In 2006 the Renault team won eight out of the eighteen Formula One races. World champion Fernando Alonso won seven of them. But the Spaniard will be racing at McLaren this year and thus an important driver has left the team. Giancarlo Fisichella believes his team and its R27 will still be fighting for the championship, even though it is missing someone like Alonso. "The car is good, eventually better than the R26," Fisichella told F1.com. "So the potential for winning is there, but my impression is that 2007 is not going to be a two-way battle between Ferrari and Renault, we could also have McLaren and BMW joining us in the podium fight. So to win eight races is a very optimistic thought."
And thus Fisichella believes it is clear where Renault is standing at the moment: "At the moment certainly as a title contender, though we must find a little bit more speed in the first couple of races. But much will depend on future developments mid season - and of how fast we can react to the improvements of the other teams."
