David Richards, the Prodrive boss who has just become the new co-owner and chairman of Aston Martin says it will be completely separate to his F1 project with Prodrive.
Richards' Prodrive company will enter F1 in 2008 with its own team and there was speculation that his acquisition of Aston Martin from Ford would lead to that brand entering F1. However, Richards insists the best plan is still to buy customer cars from another team.
"There's a long way to go before an involvement in F1 could benefit the Aston Martin brand," Richards told the BBC. "Our route to be competitive in F1 is to partner an existing team, I don't have the patience to set up a team from scratch and flog around at the back of the grid for five years."
"As far as Aston Martin is concerned, it's a product that is still in its infancy," he added.
