Raikkonen quickest in final practice
17 March 2007 / Results / PhotosKimi Raikkonen took his Ferrari to the top of the timesheets in the final practice session before qualifying with a best lap of 1m26.064s. Renault driver Giancarlo Fisichella was three tenths slower in second place whilst Lewis Hamilton continued to impress with a third quickest time of 1m26.467s.
Even more impressive was other young Brit Anthony Davidson who was an outstanding fourth fastest in his Super Aguri. It was unusual to see the two British debutants placed so highly in contrast to veterans Jenson Button and David Coulthard, who were seventeenth and eighteenth fastest respectively. Meanwhile rounding off the top six were Felipe Massa in the other Ferrari and Nick Heidfeld in his BMW Sauber.
Fernando Alonso in the second McLaren ended up seventh around three tenths adrift of Hamilton, which means that the 22-year-old has been faster than the double world champion in two of the three practice sessions. Raikkonen's fastest time also means that a different driver has been top in every practice session as the suspense builds as to who will be on pole for the first Grand Prix of the 2007 season.
