The Turkish Motorsport Federation (TOFSED) will not pay the $2.5 million fine that the FIA was claiming against it following the controversy over the podium ceremony at last year's Turkish Grand Prix.
Formula One's governing body council reprimanded the organisation on Wednesday but it was decided that the fine was unnecessary. TOFSED and race organisers MSO were supposed to each pay $2.5 million of the $5 million dollar fine. MSO paid its half of the fine last year.
The fine was originally imposed after the Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat was presented to the podium as the President of the Turkish Cypriot 'state', which is only recognised by Turkey and not the international community.
