Heikki Kovalainen was fastest on the final day of testing at Sepang for Renault, who will salvage some encouragement after a difficult test. Felipe Massa was within a tenth of the Finn's fastest time in second place. Anthony Davidson was a surprising third quickest as Super Aguri continues to impress, albeit the Brit was almost a second off the pace of the front pair.
Kovalainen will be buoyed by his pace-setting time of 1:35.767s after a tough debut at the season-opener in Melbourne and coming bottom of the timesheets in yesterday's test. Renault will also be pleased having suffered earlier in the test with mechanical problems.
Toyota's Franck Montagny was fifth quickest, ahead of BMW Sauber's Nick Heidfeld and Honda Racing's Jenson Button, who only took part in the morning session completing 37 laps. Lewis Hamilton was eighth fastest in his McLaren before test-driver Pedro de la Rosa took over testing duties in the afternoon, ending up slowest of the day with a 1:39.303s.
