Gascoyne: Big step forward for Malaysia

Gascoyne: Big step forward for Malaysia

03 April 2007

Chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne believes that Spyker will be more competitive at the Malaysian Grand Prix thanks to some aero-upgrades. The Silverstone-based outfit qualified on the back row of the grid at the season-opener in Melbourne and only debutant Adrian Sutil managed to see the chequered flag, albeit in seventeenth and last place.

"I'm never happy if we don't get both cars to the finish," Gascoyne said.

"And I'm never happy if we finish last, but there were a lot of positives. The boys worked exceptionally well, and the car is reliable. We just need to make it quicker, and we'll be quicker next race."

Spyker was the only team to not participate at the recent Sepang test, where many teams made progress on their race pace and set-up. However, Gascoyne is confident that the aero-upgrades to the Spyker car will massively improve the car's performance.

"We have made substantial modifications to the bodywork which should see a big step forward. Aerolab have extensively tested the parts and our second wind tunnel facility in the UK has validated the developments, so I'm pretty sure of the increase it's going to give," he added.
