A $650 million circuit on the Gold Coast is being planned for the Grand Prix calendar and could be the first F1 night-race, Australian newspaper the Herald Sun reports. The report is putting pressure on the Melbourne Grand Prix, which currently represents Australia on the F1 schedule.

"Nothing is secure in life," said Melbourne GP chairman Ron Walker.
"If Mr Ecclestone decides that Queensland is a better place to host a Formula One race, then that's where it will go.
"But it's a matter for Premier Bracks to talk to Premier Beattie, and I'm sure they'll work out something."
Meanwhile Ron Brown, managing director of the Gold Coast project, is keen to fulfil F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone's requirements to host a Grand Prix.
"This circuit will be flood-lit right from the start," he said.
"So it would comply with what F1 and Bernie Ecclestone have been talking about in Melbourne with the possibility of an Australian Grand Prix run under lights," he added.
