Hamilton savours 'sweet' second

Lewis Hamilton drove another strong race in only his third F1 Grand Prix to claim a third podium finish - the first driver to ever do so in the sport. The second place also puts Hamilton level on points in the lead of the championship with Alonso (official leader on count-back) and Kimi Raikkonen.

"It's sweet," Hamilton beamed. "I'm well happy with it. This weekend we've definitely closed the gap to Ferrari and have another second place in only my third race I couldn't ask for more. There's only one more step from here and in Barcelona we'll be pushing hard to make that more possible."

Hamilton had hoped for another storming getaway, but Massa made no mistake and kept the lead from the very start.

"Unfortunately I didn't get as good a start as Felipe but he did very well into the first corner and keep the position," Hamilton explained. "I just had to make sure I kept as close behind him as possible and maybe have a chance on the first lap but we were fairly well matched. I knew he was going a lap longer than me so I had to keep as close as possible, I struggled a bit in the second stint but it came good in the final one."
