Briatore: We should have prepared 2007 earlier

17 April 2007

Renault F1 team boss Flavio Briatore believes the team made a mistake by preparing themselves for the 2007 Formula One season too late. The team focussed on the 2006 championship final for too long instead trying to get their 2007 car ready too.

Briatore believes the team made a bad start and will now have to work hard to change things for the Spanish Grand Prix. "We are the defending champions, but we made the mistake in taking off late," Briatore told Gulf News. "It is three races into the season and we have not even taken off. But the fact remains here that we started off late. There are no miracles in this business, and we cannot undo lost time."

"We are late and now we understand, after three races, why we are a little bit too slower than the other cars. We need to put our act together and see how we can make use of this short break before the Spanish Grand Prix next month."
