Hakkinen expects to test McLaren again

Hakkinen expects to test McLaren again

19 April 2007

Former double world champion Mika Hakkinen expects to run a McLaren Formula 1 car again some day. The Finn was invited last year for a two-day test at Circuit de Catalunya by the Woking based team. Team boss Ron Dennis confirmed to the Finn the door is still open for him to come and test again.

Looking back at his try-out with the McLaren team Hakkinen said: "The test was mainly there for me to understand what is going on behind the scenes at the team. The team did not have any good results for a while and I wanted to help them. Some people couldn't believe how I could help after not being in a Formula 1 car for five years, but we had a great day of testing. I could supply a lot of data to the team. Obviously I couldn't be the fastest driver out there straight away but I could explain the team what I felt in the car and what they could try to improve."

Mika Hakkinen would love to go testing again with the team, but at the moment a specific date for a second try is not set just yet. "Although there isn't a specific date Ron Dennis keeps the door open for me. I will be testing again, but I don't know when and where yet so we will have to wait."
