Mario Theissen has praised the recent form of Nick Heidfeld, suggesting that a new contract might be on the horizon. The German is in the final year of his contract and speculation arose that he might face competition for his seat from the team's young test driver Sebastian Vettel.
However, three fourth places at the start of the season, including an audacious overtaking manoeuvre on Fernando Alonso, has boosted his chances of securing a new deal.
"Nick and the team are delivering outstanding performances," said the BMW motorsport director.
"From that angle, there is no reason for either of us to be looking elsewhere for alternatives."
However, Theissen has dashed Heidfeld's hopes of a speedy resolution by saying that the team is taking its time still.
"There's no rush to sort things out. We are speaking with Nick but we won't be giving any progress reports. We will make a decision before the end of the season and then announce that decision in due course," he added.
