Fittipaldi to drive at Le Mans

25 April 2007

Former Minardi F1 driver Christian Fittipaldi will be racing at Le Mans again this year for Team Modena. The team has added the hugely experienced Brazilian to their driver line-up for June's Le Mans 24-Hour race, where he will be joined by Antonio Garcia and Liz Halliday in the team's LM GT1 class Aston Martin DBR9. Prior to the French endurance classic, Fittipaldi will contest next month's Valencia, Spain, round of the Le Mans Series, a 1000km race that will give useful track time in the Aston Martin.

A former Formula One and Champ Car racer, Fittipaldi has valuable sportscar experience having previously won both the Daytona and Spa 24-Hours events, as well as having driven an LM GT1 category car at Le Mans in 2006.

"We are delighted to have Christian with us for Le Mans," said Team Modena Sporting Director Rik Bryan. "Christian is highly experienced at all levels of motorsport, and it is a great boost for the team ahead of Valencia and Le Mans. It means we go into the 24-Hour race with a tested driver line-up and can look to match the high standards we set last year when we took a top ten finish."

"I am pleased to be joining Team Modena," said Fittipaldi. "The Aston Martin will be competitive at Le Mans and I am confident we can do well."

Team Modena's Sergio Rinland and Kerry Adams have worked in the past with Christian's father Wilson, and with his uncle and double Formula One World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi, and are delighted to be extending that relationship to Christian.
