Theissen enjoys his young team

26 April 2007

BMW Sauber F1 has one of the youngest drivers in their team. With Robert Kubica (22), Sebastian Vettel (19) and Timo Glock (25) the team has three young and talented drivers. BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen has said he enjoys worked with the youngsters.
Speaking about his young drivers Theissen said: "It's great fun working with young drivers. Day by day, you see them improving and learning something new. For both Sebastian and Timo it's vital to keep on gathering race experience. Timo does so in the GP2 Series, and Sebastian contests the Renault World Series. This race involvement is essential."

And thus Theissen believes it is a shame that Formula 1 teams can only use two cars, instead of three in 2006, during Friday's free practice sessions to give young and upcoming drivers a chance to learn in F1. "I think it's a pity that the Friday sessions aren't held as pure test sessions where you could use - for instance - three cars," he admits. "To date, we have been the only big team to offer a test driver the chance of contesting the Friday sessions. Prior to the Spanish Grand Prix, we will meet to discuss our future approach."
