Valencia confirmed for 2008

10 May 2007

Bernie Ecclestone has signed a seven-year deal for Valencia to host a Formula One Grand Prix, starting next season. The deal was announced at a press conference in the Spanish city on Thursday.

Ecclestone was accompanied by Valencia's mayor Rita Barbera and Valencian government's president Francisco Camps at the announcement. The race will take place on a street circuit and a paddock and pit complex is thought to be planned for the industrial area of the city. The track will cover the city centre and the harbour area.

The announcement confirms that there will be two Spanish Grands Prix over the next few seasons at least as Barcelona has a deal till 2011. This comes as no surprise following the increased Spanish thirst for F1 thanks to Fernando Alonso's success. During the height of Michael Schumacher's popularity there was also two Grands Prix in Germany.
