It was Fernando Alonso's turn to put McLaren top of the timesheets this afternoon in the second practice for the Spanish Grand Prix. Alonso went half a second quicker than Lewis Hamilton's pace-setter from the first session with a 1:21.397s.
It looked like team-mate Hamilton had ensured a second McLaren one-two of the day until Giancarlo Fisichella put in a surprisingly quick lap in the dying minutes to come within three tenths of Alonso's best. Renault team-mate Heikki Kovalainen then put in a similar effort to put his Renault third fastest, however it would seem that both the Renaults were running on lighter trim.
Felipe Massa was fourth fastest whilst team-mate Kimi Raikkonen was sixth, however, only tomorrow will Ferrari's true pace be known when they run on lighter fuel loads. Hamilton was sandwiched between the two Ferraris in fifth whilst Nico Rosberg was a very repectable seventh for Williams. Nick Heidfeld, Mark Webber and Scott Speed made up the top ten.
