This morning Bernie Ecclestone and Spanish politician Josep-Lluis Carod-Rovira announced in a press conference the Circuit de Catalunya will host the Formula 1 Grand Prix until 2016. The track had a contract that ran out in 2011.
On Thursday Ecclestone announced that starting in 2008 Valencia will host a Formula 1 race. Obviously questions rose weather or not Barcelona would keep its F1 race. Both Italy and Germany played host to two F1 races, but this year both countries host only one race.
At the press conference Bernie Ecclestone said: "I am obviously very happy we reached an agreement and we are on good terms again because at one stage we were a bit concerned that we wouldn't be able to reach an agreement here."
Ecclestone furthermore praised the quality of Circuit de Catalunya. "What is important is that when anyone wants to build a circuit, they ask: 'Where can we go and have a look?' And I always tell them to visit Barcelona. I hope that everyone maintains that level."
