Massa had no idea he was on fire
13 May 2007 / Results / PhotosFelipe Massa stormed to victory in the Spanish Grand Prix and survived two scary incidents - firstly a first corner tussle with Fernando Alonso in which he emerged in the lead and secondly when fuel spilled onto his hot exhaust during the first pit stop and covered the back of his Ferrari in flames.
When told he was on fire in the pit lane Massa cooly replied, "I didn't know that, it's not important. If we had a problem it must have been solved."
As for the first corner fight with Alonso he explained, "It was a little bit tight from both of us but I was just on the inside and went for it so it was quite a risk for both of us, but looking at the competition the first corner was important and I didn't want to lose like I did in Malaysia. I was inside so I just wanted to stay there. We touched and it was very close, a very small contact but I was a bit afraid after for my car, but fortunately nothing happened."
"I think the most difficult part of the race was the start and afterwards when I saw that the car was responding quite well I managed to build quite a good gap already and after that had the race in my hands," he concluded.
