Tyres interesting to watch - Sato
22 May 2007Super Aguri driver Takuma Sato believes it will be interesting to see how the Bridgestone tyres will do in Monaco this weekend. Bridgestone will bring a very soft compound tyre to maximise the mechanical grip in the streets of Monaco. The teams have been testing the compound last week at Paul Ricard but Sato admits its difficult to prepare for a street course.

The streets of Monaco can not provide the kind of asphalt as modern racing tracks do and thus there will be less grip for the drivers. Less grip and tight corners guarantee an exciting race every year. Japanese driver Takuma Sato realises the very soft compound provided by Bridgestone will try to give him maximum grip, but when you're hard on your tyres they will easily go down in quality.
Speaking about the Bridgestone tyres in Monaco Sato said: "We tested both options in Paul Ricard last week, but as Monaco is the only street circuit on the calendar and you cannot test on it, it is difficult to reproduce its conditions during testing. The Monaco streets have such low grip so we shall be using the Bridgestone Potenza very soft compound tyre to maximise the mechanical grip. But if you put to great a force on these tyres they will not survive. We collected valuable data at Ricard, so hopefully we can make them work on our car, but it will be challenging on the supersoft Bridgestone option."
