Fernando Alonso believes that Kimi Raikkonen is still very much a threat in the title race despite the Finnish star's recent run of bad luck. The Ferrari driver failed to record any points at the last race in Spain when he retired and he looks set to fall further behind in the points standings this weekend after a mistake in qualifying cost him dear. However, the double world champion cited Michael Schumacher's comebacks in the past two title campaigns as a threatening scenario.

When asked about Raikkonen's situation, Alonso answered: "There are 17 races and we saw, unfortunately, in the last two years, that after having a big gap in the middle of the season, it can disappear in the end. If you do a good last part of the championship, you can win, as Michael did last year - he was 25 points behind me after Canada and then equal in Japan after six or seven races.
"So I think even if you lose points now, it is not over. You can do a good recovery in the last part. But it is so tight and close between Ferrari and McLaren this year that any mechanical problem that you have with your car is costing you a lot of points unfortunately."
