BMW Sauber only requires six more points to equal its points tally from last season. Mario Theissen is therefore very pleased with the performances so far this season. At the last Grand Prix in Monaco, Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld came home in fifth and sixth places respecetively, contributing a further seven points to the team's 2007 cause, which BMW's motorsport director thinks has cemented the team's third place.
"We have already collected 30 points - that is nearly as much as the entire last season," Theissen said.
"Additionally we have been able to open up a substantial point gap to the team behind us." After five Grands Prix the gap to the fourth place team in the constructors' championship - Renault - is now 14 points.
At the next race in Montreal, BMW could quite easy beat last year's points achievement with the same result from last weekend. Theissen is confident of another strong showing at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
"Monaco has its own laws and its very own track characteristics. Montreal is a completely different matter. Our cars love to be let loose - and there are many long straights in Montreal. Therefore we are entering that race with optimism," he added.
