Alonso - second half of season will be stronger

06 June 2007

Fernando Alonso has fired a warning shot to his rivals saying he expects to be much stronger in the second half of the season. Alonso is currently tied on points with team mate Lewis Hamilton but leads the drivers' championship courtesy of his two race wins.

"I've always said that my and the car's potential will be seen mostly in the second half of the season, when I'll have become completely familiar and used to the team," Alonso told the Gazzetta dello Sport. "In addition, McLaren usually makes big improvements in the second half of the season."

Alonso switched to McLaren in the winter after winning his second drivers' title with Renault.

"It's been good to be this quick in the first five races of the year, but the best will come in the last five or six," he warned. "In my opinion Ferrari is favourite for the next two races, even though we'll have the same tyres this year. Let's hope that's enough to even things out - especially at Indianapolis which is a curcuit that seems as though it was built especially to highlight their car's characteristics."
